Robotics & AI Lab Initiative

ARISE - AI & Robotics in Schools Initiative

ARISE is an educational initiative aimed at establishing state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics laboratories across all high schools in Kerala, creating foundational awareness in these fields among students. The project is being implemented by upgrading the existing digital infrastructure in schools with Little KITEs units, while ensuring the necessary equipment is provided to schools without them. In Kerala’s public school ICT curriculum, coding is already introduced from Class 4, AI concepts from Class 7, and Robotics in Class 10. ARISE serves as a direct continuation of these learning objectives.

Key Impact: Advanced Robotic Kits have already been distributed to over 2,200 schools, with dedicated KITE Mentors and Student Mentors fully trained to lead the initiative. This program aims to lead the next generation to the forefront of the global technological revolution, cultivating scientific temper and innovative problem-solving skills right from the school level.

Key Objectives

  • Hands-on ARISE Hubs: Convert existing IT labs or tinkering spaces into interactive, advanced robotics learning environments.

  • Socially Relevant Innovation: Encourage students to use design thinking to build tech-driven solutions for real-world issues in agriculture, healthcare, traffic control, and water management.
  • Ethical AI Awareness: Instill critical thinking, digital ethics, and safety awareness for responsible AI usage.
Implementation Roadmap
Phase 1: School Selection & Infrastructure Setup (Target: July 31)
Selection of target schools based on KITE guidelines. Delivery of hardware (Advanced Robotic Kits, ESP32 boards, sensors, projectors) and AI-integrated coding software. Establishment of dedicated ARISE Hubs (IT / Tinkering Labs) in selected schools.
Phase 2: Academic Planning & Mentor Training (Target: August 31)
Release of training modules and practical project guides (e.g., ESP32 Traffic Lights, Gas Detection Systems, IR-based Security Controllers). Intensive training sessions for mentor teachers, covering technical skills and lab safety protocols.
Phase 3: School-Level Rollout (Target: September 30)
Execution of structured student schedules and project documentation. Creation of showcase platforms for student innovations and launch of an online support portal. Sub-district level coordination led by KITE Master Trainers.
Phase 4: Phase-1 Completion & Evaluation (Target: October 5)
Finalization of school-level project documentation. Performance review and reporting across Sub-District, District, and State levels.
Digital Academic Oversight

Thaarapadam - Samagra Plus for Primary school Head Masters

To elevate academic standards across Classes 1 to 12 in public education, integrating modern digital technology alongside physical infrastructure is essential. Samagra Plus is a comprehensive digital academic monitoring system that unifies curriculum-aligned digital content, teaching, assessment, progress tracking, analytics, and administrative oversight into a single network.

As part of the Government's 100-Day Programme, expanding infrastructure to boost academic quality is a key focus. Efforts are underway to integrate various portals developed by the Department of General Education to achieve this goal. By systematically documenting academic monitoring through digital tools and evaluating progress via centralized dashboards, all educational activities can be coordinated seamlessly to drive overall academic excellence.

  • Teacher Support: Helps teachers plan learning activities using modern digital tools.
  • Headmaster Oversight: Enables Headmasters to monitor, record, and guide lesson plans (both digital and non-digital) prepared by teachers.
  • Educational Officers' Monitoring: Provides Educational Officers with tools to track school performance, offer guidance, and encourage academic progress.
Headmaster Training & Capacity Building

This module is designed to train Headmasters on effectively utilizing the Samagra Plus portal to evaluate and record school academic activities.

  • Support for New Leaders: Designed to equip newly appointed Headmasters with complete technical and academic support, building total confidence in their administrative role.
  • Comparative Learning: Encourages trainees to benchmark current practices against existing workflows during training.
Training Objectives
  • Familiarize Headmasters with Samagra Plus features.
  • Encourage teachers to adopt portal-based learning resources.
  • Empower school leaders to easily evaluate and analyze academic outcomes.
Classes 1 to 7 ICT Environment

Digital Square

Digital Square is an innovative educational initiative designed to foster gamified learning, digital literacy, creativity, and self-directed learning skills among students using modern ICT technologies. The project envisions setting up a digital technology-enabled learning environment across Classes 1 to 7 in public schools. It serves as a common platform to ensure equal opportunities for all students in utilizing technology. "Digital Square" helps increase student participation in emerging techno-creative fields—including Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, & Comics (AVGC)—while establishing the necessary foundational digital learning ecosystem.

Alongside this, the project aims to deliver ICT-enabled learning using Lower Primary and Upper Primary ICT-empowered textbooks (Kalipetti and e-Vidya), while promoting collaborative and decentralized development of digital learning resources.

School Eligibility & Operations
  • Government and Aided Lower Primary (1–4) and Upper Primary (5–7) schools following the state curriculum with at least two computers can participate.
  • Schools with higher student enrollment must set up additional computers proportional to their strength.
  • Arrangements must be made to ensure the Digital Square space remains fully operational during all school hours.
  • As part of the 100-Day Action Plan, the project will be implemented in 50% of eligible schools in each educational district that possess the necessary physical infrastructure and demonstrate readiness.
  • By ensuring continuous ICT-enabled learning, Digital Square will serve as a permanent digital learning aid in participating schools.
Main Objectives
  • Gamified & Blended Learning: Ensure digital-physical blended learning across all subjects using edutainment software like Educational GCompris, designed specifically for children.
  • Digital Safety: Create a self-directed learning environment that emphasizes safe digital device usage.
  • Creativity & Life Skills: Foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and computational thinking using tools such as Tux Paint (Drawing), Thalam & MuseScore (Music), Pencil2D (Animation), and Scratch (Block Coding).
  • Bridging the Digital Divide: Reduce digital inequality by providing equal access to tech resources and standardized digital learning opportunities for all students.
  • Inclusive Education: Utilize assistive technologies such as voice feedback for visually impaired students and high-contrast UI settings for children with special needs.
Implementation Guidelines (August–September 2026)
Phase 1: School Selection & Resource Creation (Target: July 31)
School Selection: Selection of ready Govt/Aided LP and UP schools equipped with at least 2 computers. Headmasters must submit an approval form sanctioned by the PTA. Larger schools must ensure computers proportionate to student count.
Coverage: Ensure coverage reaches 50% of schools in each educational district.
Resource Customization: KITE will prepare the required digital resources and a customized FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) Digital Square environment. Resources from the Samagra Plus Learning Room portal will be adapted for this purpose.
Targeted Content: KITE will develop specialized digital resource packages for LP and UP sections separately.
Phase 2: Infrastructure Development, Setup & Training (Target: August 30)
Digital Square Space: Allocate a safe, open-access space (existing computer lab, classroom, or suitable area) equipped with a prominently displayed Digital Square Board.
Hardware Readiness: Utilize laptops and desktops provided via Hi-Tech School projects or other initiatives, along with Smart Boards. Audio systems must be functional on all computers.
Software Packaging: KITE will provide a customized software package running on the KITE GNU-Linux 22.04 OS, complete with FOSS learning tools, filtering mechanisms, and specialized UI environments.
Integrated Tools: The package includes Language Lab software (e-Cube English, e-Cube Hindi), subject-wise edutainment games, interactive digital resources, digital worksheets, digital textbook editions, and podcasts.
Subject Tasks & Connectivity: KITE will supply subject-specific tasks. Internet connectivity is recommended for Upper Primary Digital Squares, whereas Lower Primary units do not require internet access.
Teacher-in-Charge: A Primary School IT Coordinator (PSITC) or designated teacher will be assigned to manage the project and receive specialized training from KITE.
Phase 3: Classroom Activities (Target: September 15)
Peer Training & Group Activities: Trained teachers cascade training to fellow teachers. Teachers assign subject-specific tasks/worksheets as group activities in classrooms.
Phased Rollout: Activities begin in one division per class level. Student groups use Digital Square facilities within allotted time slots.
Creative & Computational Tasks: Record poetry using Audacity; compose melodies using MuseScore and rhythms using Thalam; create digital art using KolourPaint and Krita; build animations using Pencil2D; develop games using block programming tools (Scratch, Turtle Blocks).
Three Primary Activity Streams: 1) Classroom Task Completion based on textbook lessons, 2) Core Skill Acquisition through edutainment games (TuxMath), and 3) Creative & Life Skill Enrichment.
Phase 4: Implementation & Expansion (Target: October 5)
Self-Learning Corner: Expand Digital Square activities across all divisions. Provide students access to practice independently during assigned hours and free periods.
Rotation Model: Schedule computer access using a rotation system so all students in a division receive equal hands-on time.
Academic Support & KITE Mentorship: Educational Officers monitor implementation; KITE Master Trainers regularly visit schools to provide continuous guidance.

Competitive Exam Training

Mukulam - Competitive Examination Training for Higher Secondary Students

Currently, students face the challenge of preparing for competitive entrance examinations alongside their regular school studies. The UGC mandates aptitude tests for all undergraduate admissions, not just for Medical and Engineering courses. Major universities and colleges grant admission based on entrance test scores, and entering the workforce also requires clearing competitive exams. To address this, the Government has decided to integrate high-quality foundation training into the regular public education system, preparing all Class 11 and Class 12 students for examinations such as NEET, JEE, KEAM, and CUET.

While previous initiatives provided model question banks, preparing under teacher guidance within the school environment offers far greater benefits. It instills confidence and equips students with proven preparation strategies. To maximize efficiency, a dedicated, AI-powered portal will be developed to deliver personalized training.

Key Objectives
  • Universal Training: Provide competitive examination training to all Class 11 and 12 students across Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams.
  • Confidence Building: Familiarize students with the formats and preparation strategies for professional entrance exams to boost their confidence.
  • Academic & Career Readiness: Equip Kerala’s public school students to excel in higher education and secure high-quality jobs.
  • Increased Representation: Enhance the presence of Kerala students in premier higher education institutions and competitive career sectors.
Implementation Phases
Phase 1: Portal Setup (Target: July 25)
Dedicated Platform: Launch a specialized portal to empower public school students for competitive exams.
AI-Driven Personalization: Integrate artificial intelligence and modern technology for tailored learning experiences.
Deep Conceptual Learning: Offer resources that support both exam preparation and in-depth subject comprehension.
Teacher Monitoring & Multi-User Access: Enable subject teachers to track student progress and provide actionable feedback with distinct logins for students, teachers, and principals.
Phase 2: First-Term Dataset & Resource Creation (Target: July 31)
Syllabus Alignment & Core Subjects: Prepare first-term datasets aligned with school curriculum across Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Accountancy, Business Studies, Political Science, Economics, and English.
AI & Expert Vetting: Utilize AI systems to generate comprehensive question banks followed by strict accuracy checks by expert teachers.
Broadcast Preparation: Begin producing dedicated video training classes for telecast on the KITE VICTERS channel.
Phase 3: School Readiness & Pilot Rollout (Target: August 15)
Statewide Pilot: Implement the initiative across 500 Higher Secondary and VHSE schools statewide, selecting a quota from each district.
Extended Access: Extend opportunities to any interested non-selected schools, ensuring the portal is open to all students.
Term 2 Prep: Concurrently develop second-term datasets and resources using AI, verified by expert faculty.
Phase 4: Portal Training & Capacity Building (Target: September 30)
User Manuals: Release detailed user guides customized for Principals, Nodal Teachers, Subject Teachers, and Students.
Leadership & Teacher Empowerment: Train Principals and Nodal Teachers on managing logins and tracking progress; train all Higher Secondary and VHSE teachers on platform usage and guidance tools.
Phase 5: Universal Rollout & Full Operations (Target: October 1)
Statewide Logins: Activate portal logins for every Higher Secondary student in Kerala.
Targeted Training: Conduct practical training for all batches eligible for entrance exams (JEE, CUET, KEAM, etc.).
KITE VICTERS Integration & Expansion: Launch continuous TV broadcasts integrated with the portal so students can rewatch episodes anytime. Incorporate additional subjects and third-term AI datasets.
Digital Knowledge Repository

Schoolwikithon - Schoolwiki Updation Campaign

Schoolwiki (https://schoolwiki.in) is an official digital knowledge repository created through public participation, connecting every public school across Kerala. It serves as a comprehensive platform providing the public with detailed information about schools, including their history, physical infrastructure, academic activities, achievements, special features, and photo galleries. Additionally, Schoolwiki hosts local histories, state school literary festival entries, academic master plans, digital school magazines, Kunjezuthukal (creative writings by Class 1 students), and Aksharamvriksham (literary works created during the COVID-19 pandemic).

By transparently and continuously documenting school activities, Schoolwiki provides reliable information to students, parents, researchers, and the general public, playing a vital role in strengthening the connection between schools and the community.

Background & The "Wikithon" Campaign

As per directions vide Government Order G.O. (Ordinary) No. 1198/2022/G.Edn dated 01.03.2022, all Government, Aided, and Recognized Unaided schools in Kerala were mandated to set up their respective Schoolwiki pages, ensuring content quality and factual accuracy. However, several school pages remain incomplete, and some unaided schools have yet to update basic information. To address this, the State Government has launched "Wikithon – Schoolwiki Updation Campaign" as part of its 100-Day Action Plan. Managed by the General Education Department, this statewide initiative aims to comprehensively update and enrich 12,500+ Schoolwiki pages, reinforcing digital transparency and school presence across the state.

Key Objectives
  • Digital Archiving: Cultivate a culture of continuously documenting the history, founding background, ongoing activities, and notable alumni of every public school for future generations.
  • Community & Student Empowerment: Enable teachers, students, and community members to collaboratively gather local information and school magazines, publishing them on an open public platform using a Wikipedia-style format.
  • Information Accuracy: Ensure all basic school data is updated and verified in a time-bound manner.
Implementation Guidelines (2026)
Phase 1: Status Survey of Schoolwiki Pages (Target: July 30, 2026)
KITE Master Trainers will evaluate current school pages based on review indicators, identify gaps, and provide feedback lists to the respective schools.
Phase 2: Capacity Building & Training (Target: August 20, 2026)
Master Trainer Orientation: Online training session for Master Trainers (July 28, 2026).
Nodal Officer Training: One-day training for Schoolwiki Nodal Officers from all schools using KITE's customized module (August 20, 2026).
School-Level Cascade Training: Nodal Officers train fellow teachers and 2 student representatives from Class 8/9 Little KITEs units (August 20, 2026).
Core Training Modules: User registration & account setup, Visual Editing techniques, Content addition & formatting, Image uploading & page embedding, Documenting club activities, Mapping and verifying routes using OpenStreetMap.
Phase 3: Content Updation Drive (Target: September 10, 2026)
Editorial Team Formation: Establish a school editorial team headed by the Schoolwiki Nodal Officer (alumni can also be included).
Content Generation: Teachers and students collaboratively create, format, and publish local history, school achievements, local knowledge, and digital magazines.
Sustained Engagement: Establish dedicated editing schedules (e.g., Wednesdays for data collection, Thursdays for editing).
OpenStreetMap Integration: Verify and align location maps on all Schoolwiki pages.
Quality Assurance Checklist: Factual accuracy, Zero spelling errors, Grammatical correctness, High-resolution quality images, No copyright infringement, Proper categorization.
Certification: Upon completion, school authorities attach the official completion template, certify the page, and notify their designated Master Trainer.
Phase 4: Review, Evaluation & Formal Declaration (Target: September 30, 2026)
District & Sub-District Evaluation: KITE Master Trainers review updated pages against quality parameters and attach the official verification template upon satisfactory completion (Target: September 15, 2026).
Final Declaration: Finalize all updates statewide and officially declare completion of the Wikithon project by September 30, 2026.
