About the CEO

K. Anvar Sadath serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the state-owned enterprise under the General Education Department, Government of Kerala. With over 27 years of experience in e-Governance, ICT and Society, Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and educational technology, he leads the strategic implementation of ICT-enabled education across Kerala’s public schools.

Since assuming the current role of CEO in 2017, Mr. Sadath has steered several landmark initiatives that have transformed the state’s educational ecosystem. He successfully implemented the flagship Hi-Tech School project, upgrading over 45,000 classrooms in 4,752 schools from Classes 8 to 12, and the Hi-Tech Lab project covering 11,000 primary schools. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the “First Bell” digital classes through KITE VICTERS, ensuring uninterrupted learning for millions of students. He also founded the Little KITEs IT Clubs, now India’s largest student IT network with units in over 2,000 schools, and introduced the E-Cube English and Hindi Language Labs. A strong advocate for digital sovereignty, he championed the complete migration of Kerala’s school education system to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).

Under his leadership, KITE has pioneered several cutting-edge initiatives including the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics into the school curriculum, supported by training for over 80,000 teachers. He oversaw the inclusion of AVGC in ICT textbooks, launched a Fake News Detection programme for two million students, developed the SchoolWiki platform connecting 15,000 schools, and introduced the AI Essentials online course for the public. Additionally, he continues to oversee major e-Governance platforms such as Samagra and Sampoorna.

Before his tenure in KITE, Mr. Sadath held key positions in several State initiatives, including Director at the IT@School Project (2007–2012, 2016–2017), the predecessor of KITE. He served as Director of the Akshaya Project, Head of the UNDP-funded e-Krishi Project, and Manager (e-Governance) at the Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) during 2005–2007. He has also worked at Information Kerala Mission (IKM) (2000–2005) and at C-DAC (the then ER&DCI) during 1998–2000, where he started his career as a Scientist.

He has actively contributed to the academic and policy ecosystem as a member of the CUSAT Syndicate and as an advisory board member of CIET, NCERT, Government of India. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Kerala State ICT Textbook Development Committee. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to digital education, Mr. Sadath became the first Indian to receive the International Contributions Award from the Association for Educational Communications & Technology (AECT), USA (2018). He is also a recipient of the Prof. N.A. Kareem Award for Public Service (2022), the State Award for Best Popular Science Book (2005), and the Dr. C.P. Menon Memorial Award for Best Science Book (2012).

A passionate writer in Science and Technology, he has authored several books, including Cybercrimes and Indian Cyber Law, Nanotechnology, Internet – Applications and Possibilities, Cyberscan, and Cyber Waves.

Mr. Sadath holds an MCA from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (1997), an MBA from Annamalai University (2015), and an LLB from the University of Kerala (2021).
